Some Genealogy Terms

BDM's: Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Distaff: Female Line.

Family History: Finding out what people did from birth to death.
Genealogy: The collecting of Names, Dates and Places in the family tree.

IGI: The International Genealogical Index of over 200 million names worldwide prepared by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. It covers Christenings and marriages from the 1500s to the 1880s but is not complete (not all Parishes have permitted filming).
GRD: Genealogical Research Directory. Published annually, you can submit entries with the names of families you are researching.

Pedigree Chart: A chart showing your bloodline and lineage.
Family Group Chart: A chart for recording parents and children, showing all birth, marriage and death dates.
